Mary Blue is a community herbalist, educator, entrepreneur and founder of Farmacy Herbs in Providence, RI. Since 2006, she has grown Farmacy into a center for high quality organic bulk herbs and products, herbal education, community health, and small scale herb farming. Mary has trained over 1,500 students through her Herbal Foundations Certificate Program, and her graduates have gone on to launch herbal businesses nationwide.
Mary teaches Western Herbalism at Brown University Medical School and has presented at conferences including the International Herb Symposium, USDA Women in Agriculture, and the United Nations Council on Women. Her work centers on health justice, accessible education, and community-rooted care.
Mary’s contributions have been recognized with numerous awards, including the American Herbalists Guild Community Service Award (2020), American Botanical Council Herbal Community Builder Award (2020), Northeast Herbal Association Community Herbalist Award (2008), and first-place prizes at the International Herb Symposium in 2009 and 2015. In 2019, Mary and herb co-defendants emerged as the victorious defendant in the landmark Free Fire Cider battle, successfully defending the right to keep traditional herbal remedies in the public domain.
