About this speaker
Rockie is an artist, herbalist, and urban land steward in San Antonio, TX. She is deeply engaged in community education, local agriculture, and cultural arts and has held board positions in multiple organizations focused on civic engagement, mentoring, sustainability, farming, and strengthening resilient local food systems through food sovereignty.
As a Texas Folklorist Fellow, Rockie developed Good Dirt, an oral storytelling program highlighting Texas Black farmers. She was also an advocate working to bridge the gap in land access for BIPOC farmers and advocating for key recommendations in the 2023 Farm Bill.
Rockie sits on the leadership team of Sustainable G’s and the Eastside Family Coalition, supporting cultural land practices and food histories. She is also the founder of Mawe Apothecary (“Our Mother’s Way”), a micro-batch, community-based herbal apothecary and clinic. Through Mawe Apothecary, she honors the land, cultural traditions, and spiritual wisdom of plant medicine by crafting high-quality, hand-made botanicals.
Currently working toward her clinical herbalist registration and certification. She teaches herbalism and tea traditions through multiple online programs and in-person workshops, sharing her expertise in plant medicine, food systems, and cultural healing practices.
