Free Clinics in Action: Herbalists Building Community Care
A Talk by Sam Coffman , Jocelyn Boreta , Lorna Mauney-Brodek , 7song and Kat Maier
About this Talk
Across the country and beyond, herbalists are finding innovative ways to bring free, accessible care to their communities. In this live panel, we’ll hear from practitioners who have established and sustained herbal clinics in diverse forms—from integrative free clinics to mobile herb buses, carts, bikes, and pop-up care stations.
Panelists include:
- Jocelyn Boreta – community organizer, herbalist, and co-founder of Botanical Bus, a bilingual mobile herb clinic serving Latine and Indigenous immigrant communities.
- Kat Maier, RH (AHG) – herbalist, teacher, and founder of Sacred Plant Traditions and Botanica Mobile Clinic, with decades of experience weaving clinical herbalism, biomedicine, and conservation.
- Lorna Mauney-Brodek – herbalist and founder of Herbalista, a community-based initiative offering free herbal care through the Herb Bus, Herb Cart, Herb Bike, and other mutual aid projects.
- 7Song – clinical herbalist, naturalist, and director of the Northeast School of Botanical Medicine, with over 15 years of experience providing free integrative care at the Ithaca Free Clinic.
- Sam Coffman – herbalist, acupuncturist, and author of Herbal Medic, co-founder of Herbal Medics Academy and Herbal Medics, bringing herbal first aid and disaster relief to underserved communities.
Together, they will share stories, strategies, and hard-earned lessons from the field: building and sustaining clinics, navigating donations and logistics, fostering patient trust, and strengthening resilience through community-rooted care. This panel is both an inspiration and a toolkit for herbalists seeking to make free, accessible healthcare a reality.
